When Allen and Grace Brewer (Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon) lose their oldest son (Aaron Johnson) in a car accident, a girl they never knew shows up, claiming to be his girlfriend (Carey Mulligan), needing a place to stay, and wanting to know all the things she never got a chance to learn about him. As the parents and their troubled youngest son (Johnny Simmons) attempt to deal with their grief, understand his death and confront the stranger in their home, they are forced to confront themselves and their relationships in this intense drama, nominated for the 2009 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Award. -Janis Jolcuvar
